DAY TWO - CANBERRA TRIP 2012

Today, Thursday the 28th of June. The years 7’s went to the National Museum to browse in all the collections of Australian history, old and new. Each one of us had to find 2 topics, one about old history and the other one modern. We then had to make a story with all the information that we gathered.

After the museum we went to the Australian High Court. There are three courts in the building. We had a different tour guide for each court room.

Soon after that we took another bus ride to the Institute of Sport. Our tour guide took us around to visit some of the gyms, arenas, training areas and a play room.

In the play room the yr7’s got to play interactive games, single player and multiplayer, for about an hour. Finally after a tiring but fun day the yr7’s got the bus one more time back to Eaglehawk Holiday Park for dinner. Just a few final extras:
o   Ashleigh ran into a pole
o   Finn KP’s voice is breaking
o   Alex Button got a big hug from one of the athletes

Hello everyone. Today we went to the National Museum, the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) and the National High Court. The Museum was a social history museum. There was heaps of stuff in the museum. There was a Hickory Dickory Dock clock from the Play School TV show and there were Wiggles shirts. By the way do you like my photos from yesterday’s blog (it was the photo of the bridge). Calvin Fletcher

When I woke up this morning, the fog was really thick and I had three layers on but I was still cold so I went back and got a beanie and some snow gloves. Still cold!!! We went to the National Museum and saw tonnes of awesome stuff like old clothes, weapons, tools and a giant horse’s heart (Phar Lap) which is not as gross as it sounds, but maybe to some people.

I brought a golden magnet. Afterwards we all went to the High Court and saw the parliament house. The roofs are big and tall, I also saw a tour guide that looked and acted like a mouse, scary!!
We left the High Court and went to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport). It was pretty interesting to find out this was, and still is, were our Olympic gold medallists come from. We left for home (new home= Eaglehawk Park) after playing in Sportex which is an interactive sport fun spot.

We had lasagne for dinner and are closing the day in a memorial talk given by a lady whose dad died in the Second World War. And this brings me to now saying goodnight.

Current Compliment Counter (CCC) stands at 10 after an amazing day of manners and respect for others. The record from last year of 20 is going to fall on Saturday at this rate! 2012 team respect!!! All team members mostly well and all medicines have been dosed mostly on time. Here is a big plug for comments. We enjoyed the group cringe when some of your comments were read out tonight; there were a few sighs of relief when their names were not mentioned in any comments. We as staff feel that each child in the trip needs to cringe at least once from a comment back home. Please refrain from using pet names like “snooky” or “muffin” but if you think your babies can handle it ...... Blessings from the 5 staff, your kids are a pleasure to be with.

  6. Hi Alex, Just couldn’t resist this one as we wondered when you would find a sport that you could do laying down! Looks like everyone is having fun even the staff. We even got feedback on how wonderful and lovely you all were when you were at the AIS. Does that count as a compliment? Mum, Dad, Jade and Drew xx
