DAY THREE - CANBERRA TRIP 2012
Today we went to the Governor General’s house and saw the Governor General. We went to the Art Gallery and saw some of the art and kept getting told off by the security guards for not very much. We went to the Botanical Gardens and saw some of the flowers. Daniel Yerby
Today when we woke up it was horrible; it was quite cold and very tiring. Today we went to the most fantastic places and met a very cool person. We went to the Royal Australian Mint, the Governor Generals house where we met the Governor General Quentin Bryce. We have also gone to the National Botanic Gardens of Aust where we had an awesome opportunity of seeing all sorts of native plants of Australia. I am looking forward to being back in West Aussie and being back in my normal type of weather, SUNNY! From Jayden TriggJ!!
Dear Parents. We had a great time today and I will now fill you in on it. First we went to the Royal Australian Mint where we had a guided tour. The guide showed us a video on what went on in the Mint and then told us about the history of coins and money in Australia.
A few interesting facts were:
-If you paid a Spanish dollar for something in early Australia and you needed change they would cut the coin in half to give you change.
-another fact was that the currency Australia used to have was rum. People would trade rum for things they wanted
- The Australian Mint only made coins, and a mint in Melbourne made notes
-We paid $3 dollars for a $1 coin that was fancy and new!
After the mint, we went to the Government House where the Governor General lives. It is HUGE! At the end the Governor Generals car pulled out of the gates and the stopped suddenly, nearly making the security escort car crash into them. Quentin Bryce came out and said Hi to us all, which was really cool. We went to the art gallery and the sculptures and paintings were amazing! A favourite was a painting by Monet and it was of green lilies floating on a pond. It was a really nice painting. We went to the Botanical gardens and looked around at all the different types of Australian plants. They were very beautiful as well. Sarah Linden
Today we went to the Royal Australian Minit and had a guided tour. Then we went to the Governor Generals House’s and had a guided tour around it. As we were leaving the Governor General came out and stopped and talked to us, the car behind nearly crashed.
The we had lunch at the Sculpture Gardens and had a guided tour of the national Art Gallery and then we had a tour around the Botanic Gardens. For dinner we had fish and chips and tonight we are going to the CSIRO. By Ben Yerby
We had soooooo much fun today. First we went to the Australian Royal Mint, which was awesome. We also visited the GG’s house. Cool. We saw the GG. When she was going she stopped and the car behind it nearly crashed. It was awesome. Then we went to the sculpture gardens which had naked statues. It was so boring, but there was a fun bit there with water vapour. Then we had to see art, I have to say it was hard to appreciate the work. The botanic gardens after which was fan and boring. Yeah, produced by Alex B and D. The Alexes.
It has been a long day for the whole team and many have been looking forward to bed from the time they got out of it this morning! They have all handled themselves with real maturity and have looked out for each other very well. The Carnarvon 3 have joined in and been welcomed in and are very much a part of the team now. They are all learning so much and their journal writing and debriefing have been very impressive. They will all have plenty of stories to tell when they return. That’s all for now as we staff are looking forward to our beds as well tonight! Please keep the comments rolling as the team is loving hearing from you all. Much love Canberra team 2012
