DAY 4 - CANBERRA TRIP 2012

Today we woke up at 6:00 and boarded the bus at7:45. After 10 minutes on the but we stopped at McDonalds to have sausage and egg mcmuffin and other things.

Lake Burley Griffin which was nice and peaceful. After around an hour on the cruise we came back and went to have lunch under the Carillion. We then walked to see the Canada Flag along the lake after 40 mins of walking. The last thing we did was the Zoo, that was the best. Seeing monkeys freerun, feeding lions and giraffes and also much more. Bye for now, Tyler.

Today the Yr 7 class went to McDonalds for breakfast. After that we went to have a cruise on the lake Burley Griffin. It took around 2 hours, it was great fun. We had Subway for lunch in a park. We then went to the zoo and some people got to feed the tiger and some got to feed the giraffes, but everyone got to feed the Emus. Then we could explore the zoo with our friends but we had to have our friends with us. Then we hoped on the bus and had a great trip home. We have had an amazing day learning new things and exploring all the animals in the zoo. From Hannah Hansen and Kate Norman

Hi home crew (parents and all other supporters)We are at the halfway point and feel like we have achieved so much. We haven’t had as much time for the blog tonight as the night activities have taken all our time. The day has been a great revival day for the flagging yr7’s and staff. We had an extra 30 mins of sleep (every min is important at this stage!) The camp dining room staff were having a well earned break today so we were given breakfast at McDonalds as a replacement. Many of the kids realised that Macca’s is not much when stacked next to the amazing serves from our camp cooks. We headed up to Mt Ainslie to look out over the whole of Canberra and to get our bearings of all our travels over the week. We had the cruise that the others mentioned around the lake looking at the parliamentary triangle from the river.

We heard the story of the Canadian Flag that was flying over Canberra this weekend. The flag pole was given by the Canadian Govt in 1957 to thank Australia. Australia was to fly our flag all year and fly the Canadian flag on their national day which is on this Sunday. That happened for many years but has been forgotten for at least the last 10 years according to the cruise captain. He was very surprised to see it flying today and was pleased that all his and a friends requests over the years had been heard. We had lunch of subway, again because the staff were having a rest at the camp site, and a jam doughnut, oh yeah! The Zoo is always a hit and you will hear many stories about that part of our day when we get home. Thanks for all the comments and we were able to hand out some more cringes tonight so for that we thank you. It has been a great day and tonight the fun and friendship we saw as the kids did some team activities and then listened to a devotion on Lest We Forget has been a highlight. The CCC (Current Compliment Count) stands at 15 with only half the trip done!

    Hi Elise
Pass on our thanks to all for posting the photos and updates. Its lots of fun following your adventures in Canberra on this blog.

The zoo looked a lot of fun. It was great that you were able to get so close and feed many of the animals. That lion looked like he was licking his lips when he saw the group. Did your hand get slimed by the giraffe when you fed him? You had a real look of surprise on your face.

Glad to hear you are all having a good time and good work on the CC count.

    Miss you heaps
Love Mum and Dad (The Downings)
