DAY 8 - CANBERRA TRIP 2012

Today was really fun at Questacon. There were lots of things, a guy made a thing with foil and cups and got us to hold hands in a circle and it zapped us. There was a free fall slide, an air hockey table that you versed a robot arm, an earthquake room, a lightning cage and heaps more cool things to look at and play with so it was loads of fun. We’ll be home soon. Brendan

Today we went to the war memorial and Questacon. What we did in the war memorial, we learnt about the Second World War and we went to the discovery zone, it was so fun. We had lunch out the front of Questacon. When we went into the centre there was science stuff, experiments, free fall, and earthquake house which was so fun. Looking forward to seeing you all soon. Love Jennifer

First of all , “hey mum, dad and Evan”. IT”S THE LAST DAY!!!! We woke up at around 6:45am and started getting ready for breakfast. We had an egg and sausage and then toast and ceral if we were still hungry. After brekkie we started packing our suitcases, clearing our beds and we headed off on the bus to the war memorial. We quickly went through the World War 2 section and then went outside for the small Wreath Laying service. Jazz, Nesha, Aidan and Keegan did parts of the service. Then we had a talk with someone who fought in the war. My favourite bit there was the Discovery Zone. There was a submarine we could go into, a pretend trench and a helicopter thatwas in the war! Then we left to go to Questacon, I loved it, it was fun. There was a 6 m free fall that went down into a slide which was also really cool! There were all sorts of things there like what it’s like to be in an earthquake, you get to go into a house, it shakes and everything is breaking, ikt was awesome! After a few hours of that we left and went to the airport. We’re playing UNO and have been talking for the past 2 hours waiting for the plane. See you very soon. Teagan.

Well folks, we are on our way home to you all. It has been another great day which has topped off an amazing week for us all. Your children have out done themselves with their attitude, respect for others, thoughtfulness, manners and soldiering on character. It has been a busy week; each day was packed with as much as could be packed into it. There have been some viral, cold and flu symptoms (shared around of course, caring and sharing team that we have!) that have been quite sapping of energy and still many of the team have completed all the activities in the day.....WOW! The CCC is standing at 32 with the flight home still to come. There have been a few amazing comments by people we have come in contact with. A teacher from another school visiting Canberra came to find us teachers to tell us that they had just spoken to 3 of our student and he was very impressed by their attitude and confidence. The best compliment came from the lady that runs the dining room at our accommodation. She often has a dining room with 300-400 students in it each night most night of the year. She sat the whole group down this morning and thanked them for making the busy week easier and more enjoyable. That compliment could easily be worth all the another little one this week.
Our final point is to ask something of all the homes that the Canberra team will return to tonight (on QF719 due in at 10:15pm). Please help them unpack their trip with you. Your students have had a week that has been full of stories and challenges. They are all looking for their family members to make time to sit and listen to all they have got to say, once you have heard a story, sit some more and enjoy hearing it again, don’t rush them. They have had a week so out of the ordinary while your homes, maybe without their noise and mess, have been ordinary and routine. It is most important to us as staff to know that the discoveries your children have made this week are able to be shared and then become part of the people they are becoming. Their journals (which we have made them write in, sometimes with stern faces!) are a great place to start the stories flowing.
